  • Save a life

its that time of the year where i annoy every one to go donate blood if there is any way you can give back to society give a pint (500ml) of blood it will probably save someones life there is even a benefit for you that every donation is screened for STD’s and STI’s so if you caught something they will tell you

as of now i have 5 successful donations (as i do it at my college each semester)
the process is easy you go do the registration then the basic screening (answer a few yes/no questions) then do the advanced screening with the nurse/volunteer take blood pressure, temperature, check your iron level (with a little prick on the finger) answer a few more questions with the nurse and you make your final (anonymous) decision if they should use your blood with a bar-code sticker after the nurse leaves the screening room this is to keep people safe because someone may be to embarrassed to admit to sleeping with a prostitute recently to the nurse and not want there blood used (it is still tested however)
after they take you to the donation area and put you on a stretcher /bed thing they will find the blood vane for your arm mark it and clean the area with an antiseptic then tape down the tube (to your arm) and insert the needle they will collect a small amount for testing and the rest will go to the main bag after 5-15 minutes tou will be done you will have to hold a gauze pad for a few minutes and then they will take you to a recovery/observation area to make sure you feel ok (about 5-15 min) then you get all the cookies /juice/ coffee you want then you can be on your way but be forewarned take it easy for the next 12 hours as you will be short of breath easily due to the low blood level not to mention getting the munchies (you got to replace that lost protean and iron some how)

    US:Red Cross
    canada:Blood Services Canada
    quebec: Hema Quebec

as for the rest of the world im sure there are simaler organizations (google is your friend)

  • Apple

It is no secret that i dislike apple recently people have been getting hung up on there recycling practices to me that’s not as much of an issue. my first and foremost issue especially with the new mac book pro retina is its lack of repair-ability this thing is pretty much glued together with the ram soldered directly to the motherboard and the batteries glued to the the upper housing (blocking access to the touch pad) it also includes preparatory network and SSD cards. not to mention the “pentalobe” screwdriver to open it. because of this 1 you cant repair it like an IBM style laptop (i.e. just swap the faulty part)granted the point is to make 1-2cm thick devices personally i think that smaller is definitely not better i know it exists to fill a niche market of people that don’t need a powerful computer and only use it for checking facebook or taking notes in class (with no optical drive) like the net books but at least they are much cheaper than anything apple produces and some of the parts a replaceable with easy to find parts like using standard laptop ram (i seem to have forgotten where i was going with that)

any way the issue is that more often than not when one of these glued together laptops brakes apple replaces the entire unit granted they send it off to there recycling plant to reclaim the glass and aluminum and probably some of the components but thats not as much of the problem its that all the rare earth minerals like tantalite are used during the chip manufacturing to produce the new computer then have it shipped across the world (causing a rather high carbon footprint) granted that most components are like that but you can ship 100 dimms of ram for the same shipping size as 1 laptop

  • the penial code

i belive that the way we deal with criminals is absolutely moronic. just locking them up is by far the worst thing to do what dose it do for them just get them away from the public? sure but what about when they are released they are free to commit crimes again. i don’t think that a lifetime imprisonment is right there has to be at the very least a second chance but no early release of the prisoner other than new evidence that proves him innocent and the only people that should actually be in a prison are those who commit violent crimes and during that time (at least the last half of their sentence) they should go through a proper education (if they are below a bachelors degree but may get higher degrees if they wish)and a rehabilitation program with psychologists they should only be allowed to leave prison upon completion of the rehab (unless they are found innocent) i believe that criminalization of consumption and position of drugs are absolutely stupid and they take up room in prison a bad environment for them in the first place what if you were to reeducate the makers and dealers as punishment lets say take a ecstasy manufacturer educate him in chemistry and get him a degree so he can go work as a lab assistant for a researcher or a pot farmer teach him about agriculture and get him a job in that field rehabilitation and reeducation is the solution because more often than not violent or drug related crime is found with poor and or uneducated people without any proper degree or ability to make money why lock some one up when you can make them a productive member of society. you shouldn’t be afraid of prison granted u shouldn’t want to go but it should be something to help you not waste tax payers money
